2024 Petition Response Discussion

“Gaslighting is a form of psychological and emotional abuse that causes victims to question their reality, judgment, self-perception, and, in extreme circumstances, their sanity.” — Amy Marlow-MaCoy LPC

The 2024 petition against UBF received a response this week from the current General Director in Chicago, USA. This post is a way to share your reactions, thoughts, and responses to the petition and the response from UBF. What do you think about the response given?

I have my own response, of course. I’ll share more in the comments later. For now, I’ll just point out that the petition raises the same core issues that were raised by Koreans in 1971. They are the same issues raised in the 1980’s, the 1990’s, the 2000’s, the 2010’s, and the 2020’s. Same issues; same responses. Mostly we former UBF members have received silence from raising our concerns, both while at the group and after having gone through a painful exit process. When we do receive a response, on rare occasion, it is eerily similar to the General Director’s response to this latest petition.

We welcome UBF members and the General Director himself the join in the conversation on Facebook.

The UBF General Director needs to address the destructive deeds of the UBF Korean ‘missionaries’ associated with the UBF shepherding system before any meaningful family relationship rebuilding process can begin.

Exactly. His responses to your petition are exactly the kind of responses I got back in 2011. It is the same gaslighting and emotional manipulation tactic used every decade since the 1970’s against former members and anyone who brings up a problem or issue with ubf shepherding practices.
