In the Whoniverse, a question is often asked when faced with impossible situations.
“Where is the Doctor?”
These days, I find myself asking this question a lot. Of course I know the Doctor is a fictional character. I also know there is no calvary coming to save us here in America. In a real sense, we deserve this collapse of our myths.
In this situation, I find lessons of value from the Doctor.
Who does the Doctor praise? Who are the heroes of the narrative? It’s the companions.
The hero is Rory. It’s Sarah Jane. It’s Amy Pond. It’s Clara. And it’s Rose. They are the heroes. They are the ones who find a way when there is no way. They are the ones who get out of impossible situations. And they are the ones who often save the Doctor him/herself.
I wish the Doctor was coming. I wish we had a Tardis. But we don’t.
One more thing: The unsung hero of the Doctor stories is the sonic screwdriver. Sometimes, you just need a screwdriver.
